Former Austin Mayor Roy Butler donates $91,500 for new badgesTOP
On
August 27, 2008 former Austin Mayor Roy Butler dropped off a check for $91,500
to Police Chief Art Acevedo to pay for about 1,500 newly designed and larger officer
badges.
Butler
had promised to pay for the new badges as a personal gift to the department. The
Police Department has always been one of my main concerns, Butler said.
I feel like they are our first line of defense.
Acevedo
said the new badges are being worn by some officers, who are adding it to new
uniforms. Acevedo said it will probably take several more months before all officers
are issued the new badges and uniforms.
Mr.
Butler is an Honorary Member of the Austin Police Association.
